Human Resource Open Day, Department of Fisheries Malaysia
The Human Resource Management Division of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia held a Human Resource Open Day over two days from 16 to 17 July 2025, at Dewan Arowana, Wisma Tani. This Open Day aimed to provide an opportunity for civil servants serving in the Department of Fisheries Malaysia to review their Government Service Books, in addition to participating in various other activities such as free health screenings, the Fitter, Healthier, Happier program, and talk sessions. Booths were also set up by the Pusat Pungutan Zakat MAIWP, Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN), Proton Malaysia, and the Human Capital Development Division. The program was graced by the presence of YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Director-General of Fisheries Malaysia, and YBrs. Puan Yeo Moi Eim, Deputy Director-General of Fisheries (Management), along with staff of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia.
Hari Terbuka Sumber Manusia Jabatan Perikanan Malaysia
Bahagian Khidmat Pengurusan, Jabatan Perikanan Malaysia telah mengadakan hari terbuka sumber manusia yang berlangsung selama 2 hari pada 16 julai 2025 sehingga 17 Julai 2025 bertempat di Dewan Arowana, Wisma Tani. Hari Terbuka ini bertujuan untuk memberi peluang kepada penjawat-penjawat awam yang berkhidmat di Jabatan Perikanan Malaysia untuk membuat semakan Buku Perkhidmatan Kerajaan di samping pelbagai aktiviti-aktiviti lain seperti saringan kesihatan secara percuma, Fitter Healthier Happier, dan slot ceramah. Turut disediakan reruai Pusat Pungutan Zakat, Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri, Proton Malaysia dan Bahagian Pembangunan Modal Insan. Hadir dalam program ini YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain Ketua Pengarah Perikanan Malaysia dan YBrs. Puan Yeo Moi Eim Timbalan Ketua Pengarah Perikanan (Pengurusan) serta kakitangan Jabatan Perikanan Malaysia.
Lawatan Kerja Ketua Pengarah Perikanan ke Projek Ternakan Ikan Sangkar GST Group
YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Ketua Pengarah Perikanan Malaysia telah mengadakan lawatan kerja ke Projek Penternakan Ikan Sangkar milik Dato’ Goh Cheng Liang, yang diusahakan melalui Oceanic Aquaculture Venture Sdn. Bhd terletak di Pulau Jerejak. Projek ini telah beroperasi sejak tahun 2013 dan kini mengusahakan lebih daripada 320 sangkar, dengan fokus kepada ternakan ikan siakap, kerapu dan bawal. Syarikat ini diiktiraf oleh Jabatan Perikanan Malaysia (DOF) serta memiliki Sijil Kualiti Ikan (FQC), dan sedang dalam proses memperoleh pensijilan ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) bersama WWF. Dalam lawatan ini, Ketua Pengarah Perikanan turut menekankan kepentingan projek akuakultur yang mengambil kira aspek sosioekonomi, kemudahan infrastruktur dan akses pasaran, seiring dengan usaha memajukan industri akuakultur negara. Working Visit by Director General of Fisheries to GST Group Cage Fish Farming Project
YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Director-General of Fisheries Malaysia, conducted a working visit to the Cage Fish Farming Project owned by Dato’ Goh Cheng Liang and operated by Oceanic Aquaculture Venture Sdn. Bhd., located at Pulau Jerejak. This project has been in operation since 2013 and currently manages over 320 cages, focusing on the farming of sea bass, grouper, and pomfret. The company is recognized by the Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) and holds the Fish Quality Certificate (FQC). It is also in the process of obtaining Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification in collaboration with WWF. During the visit, the Director-General of Fisheries emphasized the importance of aquaculture projects that consider socioeconomic aspects, infrastructure facilities, and market access in alignment with efforts to develop the nation’s aquaculture industry. Also present were Puan Zarina binti Zainuddin, Director of Fisheries for the State of Penang, along with state fisheries officers.
Awareness Program on Invasive Fish Species and MOH! Tangkap Ikan Baung Ekor Merah”Competition
The Awareness Program on Invasive Fish Species and the “Moh! Tangkap Baung Ekor Merah” (Let’s Catch the Red-Tailed Catfish) competition, organized by the Pahang State Fisheries Department, was held today at Pekan Riverfront, Pahang. This program is part of the Department’s ongoing initiatives to raise public awareness about the threat of invasive alien fish species to the country’s freshwater ecosystems. The official closing ceremony was officiated by YB Dato’ Mohd Sharim Haji Md Zain, State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Chini, and attended by the Director-General of Fisheries Malaysia, YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain. According to Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Malaysia is home to over 449 native freshwater fish species, including kelah, temoleh, sebarau, and river catfish, which are ecologically and economically important. However, the presence of invasive alien species such as peacock bass, African catfish, red-tailed catfish, and sucker fish (commonly known as “ikan bandaraya”) is threatening this biodiversity. “These alien species are aggressive, reproduce rapidly, and can outcompete native species for food and habitat. Since 2022, the Department of Fisheries has carried out 17 invasive fish eradication activities, successfully removing more than 4.4 metric tonnes of these species from our waters,” he explained. This event also saw participation from local communities and anglers nationwide in activities aimed at capturing invasive species, particularly the red-tailed catfish (Hemibagrus wyckioides), a species originating from the Mekong River that is increasingly spreading in local rivers. During the same event, the Department also presented Matching Grant assistance worth RM331,400 under the Aquaculture Integration Development Program (PPIA) to three main participants from the Rizqi Cluster in Kampung Peramu, Pekan, as well as a total of RM66,000 in Inland Fishermen Cost of Living Allowance (ESHND) to 22 inland fishermen from the district. Also present at the program were Mr. Ruzaidi bin Mamat, Senior Director of Capture Fisheries Resources Division; Mr. Abdullah bin Jaafar, Senior Director of Fisheries Conservation and Protection Division; Mr. Roslan bin Abu Hasan, Director of Fisheries for the State of Pahang; and staff from the Pahang State Fisheries Office.
Program Kesedaran Spesies Ikan Asing dan Pertandingan Moh! Tangkap Baung Ekor Merah
Program Kesedaran Spesies Ikan Asing dan Pertandingan “Moh! Tangkap Baung Ekor Merah” anjuran Jabatan Perikanan Negeri Pahang hari ini telah berlangsung di Pekan Riverfront, Pahang. Program ini merupakan antara inisiatif berterusan Jabatan dalam usaha meningkatkan kesedaran awam mengenai ancaman spesies ikan asing invasif terhadap ekosistem perairan darat negara. Majlis Perasmian Penutupan program telah disempurnakan oleh YB Dato’ Mohd Sharim Haji Md Zain, Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Chini, dengan kehadiran Ketua Pengarah Perikanan Malaysia, YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain. Menurut Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Malaysia memiliki lebih 449 spesies ikan air tawar tempatan, antaranya ikan kelah, temoleh, sebarau dan baung sungai yang penting dari aspek ekologi dan ekonomi. Namun begitu, kehadiran spesies asing invasif seperti ikan peacock bass, keli Afrika, baung ekor merah, dan ikan bandaraya kini mengancam kelestarian biodiversiti ini. “Spesies asing ini bersifat agresif, membiak dengan cepat dan mampu menyingkirkan spesies tempatan melalui persaingan makanan dan habitat. Sejak tahun 2022, Jabatan Perikanan telah melaksanakan 17 siri aktiviti memburu ikan asing dan berjaya mengeluarkan lebih 4.4 tan metrik spesies invasif dari perairan negara,” jelas beliau. Program pada kali ini turut menyaksikan penyertaan komuniti tempatan dan pemancing dari seluruh negara dalam aktiviti menangkap spesies invasif, khususnya baung ekor merah (Hemibagrus wyckioides), iaitu spesies dari Sungai Mekong yang kini semakin berleluasa di sungai-sungai tempatan. Dalam majlis yang sama, Jabatan turut menyampaikan bantuan Geran Pemadanan bernilai RM331,400 di bawah Program Pembangunan Integrasi Akuakultur (PPIA) kepada tiga peserta utama Kluster Rizqi di Kampung Peramu, Pekan serta Elaun Sara Hidup Nelayan Darat (ESHND) berjumlah RM66,000 kepada 22 orang nelayan darat daerah ini. Turut hadir dalam program ini En. Ruzaidi bin Mamat Pengarah Kanan Bahagian Sumber Perikanan Tangkapan, En. Abdullah bin Jaafar Pengarah Kanan Bahagian Konservasi dan Perlindungan Perikanan, En. Roslan bin Abu Hasan Pengarah Perikanan Negeri Pahang dan Kakitangan Pejabat Perikanan Negeri Pahang.
Launch Ceremony of The 2024 Agricultural Cencus Interim Report
YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Director-General of Fisheries Malaysia, attended the launch ceremony of the 2024 Agricultural Census Interim Report, which was officiated by YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), held at MAEPS, Serdang, Selangor. The 2024 Agricultural Census, conducted by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), aims to obtain comprehensive baseline data for the agricultural sector. In the aquaculture sector, this involves the farming of fish, shrimp, shellfish, and seaweed in freshwater, brackish, and marine environments. The 2024 Agricultural Census reported a total production of 484.3 thousand metric tonnes of marine and freshwater fish, while the production of fish broodstock, fry, and ornamental fish amounted to 6.5 billion individuals. Also present at the event were YB Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security; YBhg. Datuk Seri Isham bin Ishak, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security; and YBhg. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohd Uzir Bin Mahidin, Chief Statistician of Malaysia and Commissioner of the 2024 Agricultural Census.
